Motivating My Self by ~barrierlife:iconbarrierlife:

Life's too short to cry all the time,
To simply exist, no reason or rhyme;
So chin up and smile, soldier, you'll live longer--
Dry your tears and let your heart grow stronger.

Life's too short to live a lie,
Or does another lover have to die
Before you open a window, sister, and let that sun shine in?
So pack your fears, let's see that winning grin.

Life's too short to hold your breath,
And this nostalgia will be your death.
So show me that smile, dear, and rise above,
'Cause you've still got years to laugh and love.

Author's Comments

This is hardly my best poetry, but I love it anyway. It's written in character -- the "real" author is Rayne Hart, the poet-empath leading lady of I/D: Shadow/song -- and, like all of Rayne's poetry, there's a beautiful duality that pairs her hope and despair, as though they were one and the same.

Really, they are.

Rayne wrote this poem to herself--sort of. It's called "Motivating My Self," note that it's three words and not two, because she's dividing those parts of herself that are at odds with each other in an effort to reconcile them. It's something, I think, that we all need to do sometimes; when we try to homogenize our Selves, it does little more than leave us with a dreadful malaise. Something to think about, non?

So anyway, here it is. Please, enjoy. :)
